Most patients prefer having a second set of eyes focusing on their healthcare.  According to a study, 88% of patients who sought a 2nd medical opinion for a complex condition received a refined or completely new diagnosis. XRays are often one of the most frequently and first requested imaging examinations.  Doctors may request an XRay of the cervical spine if you have neck pain or persistent numbness, pain, or weakness in your arms.  A cervical spine X-Ray shows structures including cervical vertebrae, vocal cords, tonsils, adenoids, trachea (windpipe) and epiglottis; and soft tissues such as blood vessels, skin, fat and muscles.  A USA, UK, Indian or Australian trained Radiologist will review XRays to look for signs of any damage or disease.
The USA, UK, Indian and Australian trained Radiologists working under contract for Spine and Brain Advocate are committed to reviewing imaging in great depth and detail.  All types of Radiology Imaging can be submitted for review and reporting.
Recommended Types of Neck XRays to help diagnose cervical spine and craniocervical junction disorders:

    (i)  Davis Cervical Spine Series - Digital Images from a local Chiropractor.

You may have to shop around to see which clinic has the digital X-Ray machine and the Davis C-spine Series knowledge.  NUCCA, Atlas Orthogonal Chiropractors, or Chiropractors that specialize in the upper cervical spine might be your best bet.  PLUS - If they are willing to add an additional view whereby you open your mouth and try bending your neck to touch your ear to each shoulder - this will allow for lateral overhang measurements which is a gem of a way for determining some forms of instability.

(ii) Neck X-Rays that include lateral, lateral flexion, lateral extension and AP open mouth views through your family doctor.

Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR's) Imaging Standards of Care Booklet 2011 states "Lateral cervical spine x-rays in flexion and extension are the appropriate imaging to assess cervical spine instability...  Dynamic flexion and extension views using floroscopy [for suspected ligamentous injury] is the recommended specialized investigation for cervical spine injury".

Even if the 2nd Radiology opinion verifies the initial diagnosis, patients may feel more comfortable knowing that their health is being properly assessed. This is an extra level of reassurance that may put patients fears at ease and will allow for the best treatment plans to be developed.
