The Central Nervous System

The Central Nervous System

Instability at the craniocervical junction can compress or irritate the nerves, brainstem and spinal cord.  To understand how CCI can impact the central nervous system (CNS), one can learn about the CNS.

The CNS is comprised of two main divisions:

    1. The central nervous system which is made up of the brain and spinal cord
    2. The peripheral nervous system which is made up of nerves that branch off from the spinal cord and extend to all parts of the body.

Given that the central nervous system is extremely complicated, we’ve included a video by Professor Dave will tell us about the basics of the Central Nervous System: the Brain and the Spinal Cord in a 12 minute video.
